Guardrails
The rules and checks that keep AI behavior inside safe, useful bounds.
Guardrails are the engineering controls around AI systems: input validation, output policies, permission scopes, cost ceilings, human-approval gates and content filters. They encode what the system may never do, and they are designed as architecture, not as hoping the model behaves. Production AI earns autonomy by expanding within measured guardrails.
Example from practice
An email agent may draft and categorize freely, but cannot send to more than 50 recipients or write to your billing system without human approval: scoped by design.
